Renowned Ghanaian coach Isaac ‘Opeele’ Boateng says defender Daniel Opare has got the qualities to mark out Cristiano Ronaldo at the 2014 World Cup finals.

Ghana will face Portugal in their final Group G match in Brasilia on 26 June and the talk has been about who stop the in-form Real Madrid ace.

Opeele, likened to Jose Mourinho because of his acid tongue and in-depth of the game , believes that responsibility can be taken care of by Opare, who plays for Belgian Pro League side Standard Liege.

“I have watched videos of Ronaldo and with critical looks, it is Daniel Opare who can put the brakes on him,” Opele, former Asante Kotoko coach, told myjoyonline.

“Opare is very stubborn on the pitch and on one-on-one situation with Ronaldo, he can out-fox and out-box him.”

“Opare is a very hard tackler of the ball and that is why he stopped Mohammed Salah when Ghana played against Egypt.”

“All he needs to work on is his acceleration and heading of the ball.”

Opare is a natural right-back but can play on the left side too.

Good campaign for Opare. I like Opare but why only him can stop Ronaldo is debatable.
I suspect Opare has already called to thank him.

  2. danny alvez says:

useless coach. how much did he paid you? you think taking on ronaldo will be that simple. i hope aa doesn’t listen to these bribe taking coaches.

  3. kuukuphilly says:

I don’t think opare has proven himself enough to stop ronaldo by himself.

  4. Saha says:

You stupid dog danny alves or whatever you call your self lean how to respect

  5. OHENENANA says:

Essien or Asamoah would be the best choise Asamoah playee against real madrid and did well to stop ronaldo and bale Essien has been playing against top strikers for years and they have always had problems when faving Essien he has become old and he not as good as he used to be but last year when he was on loan at madrid he did well to stop Messi

  6. Kofi says:

Listen, Opare has the pace, the youth, and the strength to match Ronaldo.
The problem is, he has poor judgement with his tackles and if put on Ronaldo,
Will easily bring us down with a Red Card, a Penalty or Both!!!

  7. Magnum says:

Ghanaians can talk, everybody is a coach on his own!!! I’ve been following Opare in Standard liege match and with his quality and speed he can handle any striker in this world, i wish he could stop playing for Ghana and rather play for Belgium but i think is too late for that!!!! stop the criticism and support Ghana. OPEELE you have spoken well.
