Mubarak Wakaso got booked for lifting his shirt
Ghana coach Akwasi Appiah has warned his players of their goal celebrations at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Midfielder Mubarak Wakaso received a yellow card for lifting his shirt to show an inscription of an inner shirt after scoring in the 1-0 win over Mali on Thursday.
The first half booking saw the Espanyol player suspended for Ghana’s final Group B game against Niger after picking up a yellow card in the group opener against DR Congo.
The suspension will hit Ghana hard as Wakaso has emerged on of the best players of the side at the tournament in South Africa.
Coach Appiah has told his players to be wary of such goal celebrations as it goes contrary to the set rules of the competition.
“It’s not a good thing that any coach would encourage his player to do this,” he said.
“But, saying that, during half-time I spoke to him about it, that he shouldn’t have done that, knowing very well that these are the set rules.
“It’s always important that once that is done all the players learn from it so that we don’t face situations because any yellow card can cost you along the line.”
