Striker Clint Dempsey hopes the US will end Ghana's dominance over in the World Cup finals when they clash in their Group G opener.

The Stars and Stripes' dream of progressing to the quarter-final in South Africa 2010 was shut by the Black Stars.

US lost 2-1 after extra-time and tasted their second defeat in a row to Ghana after losing by the same scoreline in the Group stage at the 2006 finals hosted by Germany.

"We've played them the last two world cups and maybe it's an opportunity for us to get them back," Demspey, who now plays for Seattle Sounders said after the draw.

"We feel hard done by because the last two times we played them they crushed our dreams of going further in the World Cup. We're due a win."
