Ghana star Christian Atsu is hoping that his contribution in Everton's draw with Leicester City will be enough to earn him a start against Young Boys on Thursday.

The Ghanaian provided the cross that led to the Toffees' equaliser at Goodison, earning him the man of the match award in the process.

It was the on-loan winger's second appearance in four days since his return from the African Cup of Nations and he is keen to ensure his next one is from the start.

"I want to help my team to win and in such situations I have to do my best," Atsu told ?evertontv ahead of the second leg of their Europa League tie later this week.

"When I got on the pitch I wanted to do something to make the fans happy. It’s true that I am very happy to have assisted with the goal.

"It’s always a pleasure to play in front of Everton fans. I am looking forward to the next game and I hope we will make them happy this time around.

"I am always training to start games. I don’t know what the gaffer will say but I am working hard and we will see what will happen (on Thursday)."

Despite losing the final to the Cote D'Ivoire on penalties, Atsu's Afcon adventure was a relative success, as he collected goal and player of the tournament awards.

The 23-year-old is yet to produce that sort of form at club level, something he is keen to put right between now and the end of the campaign.

"I came here to put smiles on the faces of the fans," he continued. "At the start things were not going as well but after the Afcon I am full of confidence and ready to give my best to the team."
