Chelsea are keeping tabs on Manchester City teenager Bersant Celina, [football] direct news understands.

A source close to Stamford Bridge told FDN the 17-year-old has impressed club spies who watched him in action on a number of occasions last term and reported back to boss Jose Mourinho with glowing reviews.

The west London outfit, who failed to win a trophy last season and finished the Premier League campaign in third position behind champions City and Liverpool, could firm up their interest with a summer offer.

Celina, who played in front of 17,000 fans for Kosovo in their first Fifa-sanctioned friendly earlier on in the year, can operate on both flanks or behind a striker in a withdrawn role.

He is a key member of Patrick Vieira’s Elite Development Squad at the Etihad Stadium and has blossomed under the former Arsenal and France star over the last 12 months.

Celina and his colleagues will be hoping Vieira is not lured back to his homeland to take charge of cash-rich French side Monaco this summer.

It is understood his current club is reluctant to part with the highly-rated forward but their spending restrictions, brought on by Uefa’s Financial Fair Play restrictions, could force them to generate money through sales.
