Ghana winger Christian Atsu insists his loan move to English side Everton from rival Chelsea is not a mistake despite having limited playing at the Toffees.

The 22-year-old arrived at Everton at the start of the season, joining on a season-long loan from the Blues.

The Ghanaian international has not really sparked since he made the switch despite retaining the confidence of manager Roberto Martinez.

He has played few matches for the club which has started worries in his homeland that the move to Everton was a wrong one as he commanded a starting place at his previous club Vitesse Arnhem.

Atsu says the move to Everton is the right one as he slowly warming into grabbing a first team place at the Toffees.

"I don’t see my coming here as a mistake because I came here to get the experience I need in the Premier League," Atsu said.

"I have played some matches and I have am still playing so I believe that with time I will get more playing time and silence my critics.

“I am happy here at Everton and I know that with time I will get into the first team.”

Atsu may never have featured in the Premier League, but he already has experience that few in the Everton squad have.

He has featured in the World Cup, the Champions League and the Africa Cup of Nations, and is a former Portuguese champion.

There’s no doubting that Atsu is raw and in need of refinement. His passing, for example, is one area that particularly needs work.

Considering his abilities on either flank, the Black Star is surely set for great things.
