Chelsea manager Di Matteo rules out Essien's move to Arsenal

Posted On Friday, 31st August 2012

Michael Essien will not move to Chelsea

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed that the club are in talks over a loan move for Michael Essien but not Arsenal.

The Ghanaian international was a notable omission the Blues’ squad this evening to face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.

Di Matteo confirmed that he was left out due todiscussion over a loan move.

Many would have thought that Arsene Wenger would be keen on bringing in a defensive midfielder having seen Alex Song move to Barcelona.

But reports say Wenger politely denied  taking Essien on loan.

Essien moved to Chelsea for £24m in 2005 but he is down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge

He suffered string of injuries and played just 14 games in the Premier League last season.
