Chelsea manager Di Matteo backs Essien to rediscover form

Posted On Friday, 11th May 2012

Has Michael Essien lost the steam?

By Patrick Akoto

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo is optimistic Michael Essien will rediscover his form next season.

The 29-year-old has lost the steam that made him one of the fearsome midfielders in the world after recovering from three career threatening injuries.

The service provided by ‘The Train’ is not what it once was. Those diving runs and all-action displays seem to be a thing of the past for the former Lyon enforcer.

The Ghana midfielder’s own goal at Liverpool has really defined his season but the Italian manager has reposed faith in the player by insisting he will bounce back strongly next term.

“Because Michael has been out for a long time it takes a bit of time to get back into the rhythm,” Matteo said

“Next season, he will start to see some fine performances,”

This is from the mouth of a proven footballer now a manager not a media attention grabber and mediocre football follower dubbed as a football administrator who has a brain of a toddler .
Essien will definately recover his form.
Hope Di-Matteo include him in the champions league finals.

  5. BABA says:

I hope he rediscovers his form , and never turn your back to your country. Remember country first. Learn from JT, Ronaldino, Kaka, Rio, and a lot more who are yeaning to represent their countries. Ace journalist Kwabena Yeboah even went to criticised you. You held chelsit in a high esteem, played for them with your whole heart but when it comes to the Gold coast, you pretenfd to be sick and feet dragging. Repent and the lord will heal you.

  6. JNR says:

This is nothing new, every player loses form, it’s how you rediscover it that matters. It also doesn’t help when you have been injured and been out for so long but i believe with lots of playing time, he will surely come good again.

Nobody ever thought Mikel could be ahead of Essien in the starting line up but he is surely keeping Essien out of the team by playing well. Give credit where it’s due and Mikel is playing his best football at the moment.
    Wish you good luck Essien!

  8. mukmin says:

How can he rediscover his form if u keep sitting him on the bench and playing guys like Raul Meireles over him. He should be playing every game even if off the bench to get match fit again.

  9. BlackStar-Tactician says:

Essien Should take this opportunity to come play for Black Stars during the summer break. For him to rediscover his form he needs to be active in the game whiles his pals are on break. No break for him!I believe Essien will bounce back soon.Mikel role at this moment is temporarily altho he deserve his credit.

  10. yah i hope essien willget back to his form.i luv u essien
