CEPA boss asks Bawumia to substantiate claims against Statistical Service or?

Posted On Friday, 11th May 2012

Policy think-tank, Centre for Policy Analysis has challenged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to substantiate recent claims against the Ghana Statistical Service or apologize for questioning its independence.

Dr. Bawumia had called for an independent statistical service while questioning the integrity of the statistics informing the single digit inflation sustained in recent months.

Acting Government Statistician, Dr. Philomena Nyarko on Wednesday challenged Dr. Bawumia and vehemently defended the independence of the service.

Dr. Joe Abbey, who is the head of CEPA, told Joy News in an interview that Dr. Bawumia must come again.

He also cautioned government against mounting a defense on behalf of the Statistical Service, saying that such behavior lends credence to the suspicion that the work of the service is being influenced by the political regime.

??so tell the politicians to back off,? he maintained.
