Scottish giants Celtic have dropped their interest in Ghana winger Frank Acheampong who is dubbed Lionel Messi.

The 19-year-old spent two weeks on trials in Scotland along with United States forward Juan Agudelo.

Like Agudelo, Acheampong, of Thailand club Buriram United, had arrived in Glasgow hoping to impress on trial.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon said of 20-year-old Agudelo, presently with Chivas USA: “Juan is someone we like and we’ve made tentative approaches.

“Whether we can do something, we don’t know, but Frank we’ll not be pursuing.”

It is not known whether Acheampong was ignored because of his performance but Celtic had already complained about his transfer fee.

Frank Acheampong has since returned to his current club, Thailand’s Buriram United.
