Captain Asamoah Gyan has been left out of Ghana’s squad for next week’s friendlies against Senegal and Mali.

The Al Ain striker has contracted an infection which sidelined him for last Wednesday’s Asian Champions League trip to Uzbek side Pakhtakor.

Although his club have been quiet on the extent of his ailment, it is believed it is serious to prevent him from featuring in the two matches.

The Ghana Football Association has excused the country’s all-time leading scorer so he can continue his recovery according to their statement released on Friday.

Gyan captained Ghana to win silver at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
