Ghana have secured passage to the next qualifying round of the 2014 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after Congo Brazzaville failed to turn up for the first leg match.
The Congolese failed to travel to Ghana to honour the first leg game last Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The match officials therefore ended the game twenty minutes after the Black Maidens had reported on the field of play for the challenge.
CAF have now confirmed Ghana as winners of the two legged tie – meaning the Black Maidens have secured passage to the next stage without having to travel to Brazzaville for the return encounter.
“We regret to inform you that following the fact that the first leg match Ghana v Congo in the frame of above-mentioned qualifiers was not played, the second leg match no.6 Congo v Ghana scheduled to be played on 30, 31 August or 1st Sept 2013 is cancelled as well as the mission of the officials,” a statement signed by Heba Abdalla (CAF Senior Manager Women & Futsal Competitions) said.
“Consequently, Ghana is qualified to the next round of the qualifiers” the statement further stated.
The Black Maidens who are chasing a second successive World Cup appearance will now face the winner of the first round qualifier between Kenya and Equatorial Guinea.
