Former Asante Kotoko vice-chairman Kennedy Agyepong has promised US$ 1,500 to the treatment of coach Jones Attuquayfio.

The 2000 CAF Coach of the Year has been undergoing treatment of a throat cancer at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

On Friday, a testimonial match between friends of the celebrated coach and members of the Black Stars will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium in his honour.

"This man has given so much to Ghana sports both as a footballer and a coach. A country that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for," Agyepong said.

"When I heard him on radio, I was distraught; I nearly wept. Why can't we all come together and support this true son of Ghana?

Attuquayfio won the CAF Champions League and Super Cup with Hearts of Oak 2000.

He later led Benin to qualify for their first Africa Cup of Nations finals in 2004.
