Goalkeeper Razak Brimah will remain at his base in Spain to put in extra work before joining up with the Black Stars to prepare for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old is part of Ghana’s 31-man provisional squad for the 2015 AFCON which was announced on Wednesday.

Brimah has already been given permission by his club CD Mirandes to travel to Ghana following the break in the football competition in Spain for the Christmas festivities.

But the former Nania man has decided against traveling to Ghana to spend time with friends and family and has rather opted to remain in chilly Spain to continue with his training.

Several of the Black Stars players are already in Ghana for brief holidays before reporting to the Ghana camp early January for the commencement of preparations towards the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea.

But the former Nania man has sacrificed his relaxation during this period to continue to sharpen his skill by maintaining his training sessions to give him an edge over his competitors when he arrives in the Black Stars camp early January.

He also wants to remain in top shape to play his last game for Mirandes on January 3 before joining the Ghana camp.

Ghana have chosen Spain as its pre-tournament camping base to further help Brimah’s decision to remain at bay.

“The team is coming to camp in Spain so I don’t see the reason why I should come to Ghana,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“I would rather stay here and train on my own before I join the Black Stars camp.

“We also have a game on January 3 and I want to play that game to help my team before I leave.”

Brimah is determined to become the undisputed first choice goalkeeper for the Black Stars and to use the 2015 AFCON as a platform to boost his professional career.

He is thus not missing any opportunity to better himself to ensure he first makes the final squad and then to become a hit at January’s tournament.
