Ghana defender Jerry Akaminko, who is part of the Black Stars squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, has survived a motor accident but could be prosecuted for reckless driving.

The 24-year-old, who will join Ghana's team for their training camp in the UAE next week, crashed his brown Infiniti car into a taxi, an Urvan and then veered into the woods on the Koforidua road enroute to Kumasi.

The Eskishehirspor defender who sustained minor injuries narrowly escaped beating by the natives of the town where the accident occurred for causing the accident - presumably not knowing he is a Black Stars player.

The ex Heart of Lions player needed the timely intervention of another taxi driver to escape the beatings.

He was driven to the Koforidua Central Police Station for his statement - where it was reported that the defender was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Akaminko was also traveling with an overloaded vehicle with four girls and two men (him inclusive) instead of the certified load of five passengers.

The Ghana defender was desperate to keep the incident under wraps being a public figure and fearing the development could hamper his national team prospects as he is part of the provisional Ghana squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Unfortunately for him, he was unable to escape the efficient information and intelligence gathering capacity of GHANAsoccernet.com who blew his cover.

Akaminko then resorted to throwing money around in an attempt to get the matter quickly sorted at the Police Station.

He first offered the Urvan driver Ghc 400.00 to cater for the mild damage caused to the tro-tro bus.

He also agreed in principle to replace the badly damaged taxi he first run into before hitting the Urvan and subsequently veering off the road.

Akaminko was however denied his request made to the Police to have his damaged Infiniti ride immediately towed from the accident site back to Accra.

The Police according to information reaching GHANAsoccernet.com wanted to milk all the cash out of the defender upon getting hint of his high social status.

It is now unclear how they left the issue but the Ghana defender is in danger of legal prosecution for his role in the accident that held the potential of killing innocent people.

GHANAsoccernet.com will keep updating readers on any new development of the story.
