2014 World Cup: Ghana coach Appiah includes Mahatma, Adusei in World Cup stand-by list
Mahatma Otoo has been placed on a new Black Stars list for the World Cup confirmed by FIFA

Ghana FA has revealed that coach Kwesi Appiah has put four players on the Black Stars stand-by list for the World Cup as they have now submitted  a provisional 30-man squad to FIFA.

Former Hearts of Oak striker Mahatma Otoo, Kwabena Adusei, goalkeeper Razak Brimah and Yussif Chibsah were included in the list submitted to the world governing body on Friday.

The four players will not train with the team in Accra or travel on the training tour of the United States and Holland, the Ghana FA said in a statement.

The quartet were not among the 26 players named by the coach for the World Cup on Monday during his press conference to announce his squad.

However, a list released by FIFA on Friday shows that the four players have been added to the squad for the Black Stars for the tournament in Brazil.

The GFA said in a statement that the four players have been put on the stand-by list as a precautionary measure.

"The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that four players have been placed on the Black Stars stand-by list for the World Cup," the Ghana FA said in statement published on its website on Friday.

"Goalkeeper Razak Brimah, Kwabena Adusei, Yusif Chibsah Rahman and Mahatma Osumanu Otoo are on the Black Stars stand-by list.

"The four players will not train with the team in Accra or travel with the team their training tour of Holland and the United States of America.

"Coach Kwesi Appiah has spoken to all the four players to explain to them the rationale behind his decision to add them to his already-announced 26-man squad.

"The decision is to ensure that the players stay fit while they are on holidays if there is a last minute decision to include them in the final squad."

Appiah released the squad of 26 players which was widely praised by the public for choosing the right players and it is not known if these four players have been placed on the stand-by list.

Otoo, who played for Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak before moving to Norway, has hit a rich vein of form for Songdal resulting in his outstanding start in the Norwegian top-flight.

Adusei, the powerful Kotoko central defender, excelled at the recent African Nations Championship which might have resulted in him being added to the list.

Brimah excelled in the friendly against Turkey but the form of Aduana Stars shot-stopper Stephen Adams means that Spain-based goalkeeper Brimah will be placed on the stand-by list.

Talented midfielder Yussif Chibsah has also impressed in the Italian Serie A this season which resulted in his call-up for the Japan friendly and he will also get his chance.
