Ghana defender Daniel Opare has signed for Portuguese giants FC Porto as a free agent, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

Details are sketchy but Ghana's leading portal can confirm that the 23-year-old has signed a long term deal with the European side for an undisclosed fee.

The Ghanaian international joins the Dragons after spending four-years at Belgian side Standard Liege.

The impressive right-back has been in Portugal throughout the weekend and finally signed the dotted lines on Wednesday afternoon.

That explains why he has not arrived in Ghana to join the rest of international teammates as they step up preparations ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Porto were running the rule over the highly-rated right-back after he decided against signing contract extension at Standard Liege.

Opare began his professional career at Ashanti Gold and he also played for Sfax and Real Madrid Castilla before joining Standard in 2010.

He has since established himself as one of the best right-backs in Belgian Jupiler Pro League, making a total of 91 league appearances.

He has made Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup and he is widely expected to play an important role at the tournament finals.

He could play in the UEFA Champions League next season after Porto placed third, meaning they will be involved in the qualifiers.
