Gyan scored the opening kick to set Al Ain on its way to victory in Super Cup match
By Ameenu Shardow
Asamoah Gyan scored the opening spot kick to help Al Ain win the 2012 UAE Super Cup 5-4 in a pulsating penalty shoot out against Al Jazira on Monday.
The Ghana striker banished all fears over his efficiency from the spot by stepping up first to coolly slot home in the high tension penalty shoot-out – displacing the goalkeeper in the process.
This was after a barren scoreline after 90 minutes of highly entertaining soccer in Dubai.
Gyan, 26, however failed to get onto the scoresheet despite being impressive throughout and having a 68th minute strike ruled out for offside.
The former Udinese, Rennes and Sunderland hitman played as a decoy for most parts of the game for strike partner Keenbo who was very wasteful in front of goal.
Al Ain could also count themselves very lucky for not falling behind as their defence gifted glorious opportunities to Al Jazira’s Oliveira but he failed to make them pay.
The game then proceeded straight to penalties after with Gyan taking the opening kick and setting the tone for an Al Ain win ushering them into the new UAE season.
Cheap league. This Gyan is nothing but a bitch. He could not play EPL but rather UAE. Bitch Gyan!!
mtcheeeeeeew!!!! this be news? I will take the FA cup in Ghana every single day over that trophy, not to even talk of the premier league in Ghana
Good for him. A cup is a cup. At least he is still quality and scoring, cannot say the same thing about Adiyiah.
@CHUKU AND MAXOB4:NANKA EBE YEN DE3n NA AYE MU YA…
Unbelievable. And still he can’t score from open play but needs a penalty to score. No for the sake of our beloved Ghana, we have to focus on Boakye-yiadom, Jordan etc.
Guys let Gyan be.Look at what is happening to ESSIEN.Football is become pure business with the career span of A FOOTBALLER very short.
Let Gyan make hay whilest the sun shines.
I DONT KNOW WHTS WRONG WITH SOME PEOPLE ON HERE…WHAT WILL HE GET IF HE PLAYS IN THE EPL AND END NOTHING…PLS LET THE FOOLS ON HERE START THINKING THAT WE LIVING FOR GOD AND MONEY ONLY IN THIS WORLD….LA LIGA, EPL AND SO ON…WHAT ARE THOSE PLAYERS PLAYING FOR….CHARLEY GYAN…KEEP THE FIRE BURNING…GOD IS ON UR SIDE…..ESSIEN AND GYAN WHO IS NOW PLAYING ACTIVE FOOTBALL..?
Ayo people, hatin’ is an American tendency. Where do Ghanians get this revolting atttitude from? If you nothing good to say then keep your miserable comments to yourselves. We expect our players to perform. Performance is direct linked to confidence…yet we keep bashing and breaking them down. Please lets be positive and give credit where it’s due.
Well done Gyan. The real fans who understand the game have much love for you.
