Boost for Ghana's 2014 World Cup backroom staff, Benin snubs Milovan Rajevac
Kwesi Appiah will now get the chance to hire Milovan Rajevac for the World Cup

Ghana's hopes of getting their ex-manager Milovan Rajevac to work as part of their backroom staff for the 2014 World Cup has been massively boosted after the Serbian was snubbed by Benin.

The Benin FA have appointed Frenchman Didier Olle-Nicolle to succeed Manuel Amoros, who had been under fire from officials and fans since he assumed office in 2012.

Rajevac, who was contacted last week by Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah to be a member of his backroom for the World Cup, was in the running to be the coach of the Squirrels.

The Serbian manager's decision to join the Benin coaching race means he could not play the role expected of him during the World Cup as he would have been tied to the Squirrels.

However, the Benin FA decided not to hire the Serbian because of his huge salary expectation.

Olle-Nicolle, the 52-year-old former defender, arrived in the Benin capital Cotonou during the weekend where he was presented to the press by the Football Federation.

Olle-Nicolle beat off competition from former Ghana coach Milovan Rajevic and Frenchman Hubert Velud, both of whom were also on the shortlist.

Olle-Nicolle agreed on a two year contract and has been tasked with qualifying the national team to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Benin appeared last at the showpiece in 2010.
