Ghana were handed a massive boost on Saturday ahead of next month’s World Cup qualifier against Zambia after Germany-based defender Abdul Rahman Baba returned to action after recovering from surgery, GHANAsoccernet.com can reveal.
The 19-year-old, who plays for German side Greuther Furth, played his first match of the season when they hosted Cologne in their Bundesliga II match.
Baba came on as a substitute in the 78th minute as he took over from Fürstner in their goalless draw match on Saturday afternoon.
His return to playing matches is a boost for Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah who is seeking a replacement for Richard Kissi who is suspended for the Zambia tie.
The Greuther Furth left-back underwent the operation at the start of the season to solve a minor jaw problem which has been outstanding for several months.
Doctors ruled him out of action for three weeks following the surgery which made him miss for four opening matches of the season.
The defender was part of the Black Stars in the double World Cup qualifiers against Sudan and Lesotho in June before playing at the U20 World Cup.
