Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari put Ghana in the Uefa Champions League spotlight as they scored the goals which gave AC Milan a shock 2-0 win over Barcelona on Wednesday.

Boateng, who played for the Black Stars at the 2010 World Cup, swept home the first goal just before the hour and Muntari, back after missing the first half of the season with a knee injury, blasted a superb second.

“It was definitely the most important goal of my career,” Muntari, famous for his blistering left-foot shot, told reporters.

“We knew it would not be easy but that we could do it,” he said. “We were disciplined, blocking out Barcelona’s game.”

The two players, however, have very different relationships with Ghana.

Muntari, who has more than 10 years experience of European football, has won 75 caps for the Black Stars and has played regularly for the side since 2003.

Boateng was raised in Germany, playing for them at youth level, but chose to play for Ghana at the 2010 World Cup after being approached by the country’s football association.

However, the following year he angered Ghanaians by announcing his international spotlight, prompting suggestions that he won his transfer to Milan on the back of his excellent performances at the 2010 World Cup, when Ghana reached the quarter-finals.

Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri paid another tribute to club president Silvio Berlusconi after the famous win.

“We dedicate this to the president, because he has given me a team I can work with,” said Allegri, who before the game said he frequently discusses tactics with the former Italy Prime Minister.

“This is a team I can help improve and we have to forget a bit about what happened earlier in the season,” added the coach.

Milan sold off several players at the end of last season to cut costs and struggled at the start of this term as Allegri was forced to rebuild.

With such players not featuring for Ghana at AFCON (Muntari, KPB, Essien, Andre, Jordan, Frimpong, etc), one could excuse Akwasi Appiah for having to work with a second string line-up and still manage to reach Semi-Finals. Ghana is definitely the best in Africa.

Congrats kpb n muntari.Milan was awesome last nite.So unfortunate Super Mario is cup tied cos da maverick wuld make da Rossoneri’s fav 4 CL glory. On hind sight,Kpb n Muntari renewed ma conviction abt da status of da Black stars as da best.Problem is how we can put up a formidable n an invincible team out of da supreme stable of prima donnas @ our disposal;Opare, wakaso, jonathan mensah, frimpong, essien, kpb, muntari, dede ayew, jordan ayew,k asamoah, atsu, abeyie, etc!

May God bless Muntari nd KPB for making Ghana proud once again their enemies wil regret for not sendin to afcon.Shame onto akwesi appiah nd his deciples God wil punish them all.

  6. Riquelme says:

@askantwi… B4 any tourney or a match u guys over rate and put too much pressure on on ur players. But, after performing below ur expectations and coming out flops, suddenly u guys will start giving unreasonable excuses. When did frimpong and jordan become ur key players? Bcos u just include them as one of ur best players that were being left for the afcon. Moreover, i thought prince has retired from the team, isn’t it? Essien is not the player we used to know back then, he was forced out of chelsea by mikel and now playing second fiddle to khedira at madrid.. Nowadays can muntari played 10 matches consecutively without getting injured? No, bcos he is ageing. U have only got Ayew has ur most important player in the team.. Why did u called ur team d best in africa? Is ur team better than d likes of ivory coast, nigeria, egypt, mali and zambia? U forgot that u were totally outplayed by a lowly cape verde and burkina faso in the just concluded afcon.. U ghanaians should go back to the drawing board and rebuild a formidable and committed team and stop criticising them.

  7. Troy says:

@requelme, Lol Essien playing as a second fiddle to khedira? Hahaha and when did Zambia become better than Ghana? Or even Nigeria? Your Mikel Obi started playing for Chelsea only when Essien got injured so shut the FUCK UP! He’s been warming Essien’s Bench for over 4 to 5 seasons. And if Essien is that he wouldn’t be playing MADRID. is Chelsea greater than Madrid? NO. So shut UP! We know how Mikel Obi has been costing goals. I bet you Chelsea wish Essien is back to their midfield. For your info KPB is already coming back. You enemies of Ghana.

  8. Blakroze GH says:

@Troy, take no notice of that sad confused Riquelme, clearly she(if it’s really a she) takes her info from the net so she has no idea what’s going on with our players, even look at how she compared mikel to Essien, Essien who loses form a bit and a better team (real madrid) grabs him…infact, I dare mikel to hand in a transfer request now and we’d see which teams will scramble for him….I respect mikel so much, but when people like riquelme crosses my path with comparisons like these it makes me mad, zambia? Better than Ghana? Cos you won Afcon 2012? Well since winning a trophy in recent times makes you so great, then I guess you are better than Germany and Brazil….hahahahahaha funny goats don’t take my words out of contest and say I’m placing Ghana with the likes of Germany and Brazil, to be a footballing nation, you NEED to be giants in all categories that is football related….U17, U20,U23 and the national team both female and male. So apart from 1 Afcon for the national team where are your other teams……now based on that, revisit your comments and give me 3 African footballing nations dear.

  9. ken says:

When was the last time that Ghana won a major tornament? You can’t even remember, all you hear are just stories, you have never experienced what it feels to win a competition in the modern day. Nigeria not too long ago won the AFCON 1990 and latest 2013 AFCON. Ghana wins tornament on paper without nothing to show for it.

  10. Info,germany. says:

What’s all these Ghana, nigeria, zambia daily mix rivary on gsn. The truth is Ghana remains Ghana as far as sub sahara Africa is concern wth all due respect to Egypt nd Ethiopia.all the rest come after us. If nigeria dosn’t want to know then they allowed to join iraque, after all they have enough bokoharam. His Highness Dr Kwame Nkrumah picked Keneth kauda to serve him in Ghana from Lusaka, zambia so shut up

  11. Riquelme says:

@Troy.. Is essien playing regularly at madrid? Idiot, essien only plays when madrid are playing unimportant matches.. Mikel is away at the nations cup luk at d way chealsea are conceding cheap and injury time goals.. if essien is gud, why is he loaned to madrid? Have u ever witnessed a trophy celebration with ur black ducks? Capital “NO”
