Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng must get clearance from Fifa before he is allowed to play for Greek giants Olmypiakos, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 29-year-old has passed a medical in the Greek capital Athens awaiting the decision from the world governing body, Ghana’s leading football news website Ghanasoccernet.com can reveal.

Insiders close to the deal have revealed that Boateng has reported his Ukrainian club Dnipro to Fifa in a dispute over his contract.

The midfielder wants his contract with Dnipro to be abrogated because of the stand-off to enable him to seal the big-money move to Greece even though the transfer window is close.

If the contract is abrogated by FIFA, Boateng will be allowed to join Olympiakos on a free transfer which is not bound by transfer window limitation.

This is similar to what Didier Drogba did when he got FIFA to abrogate his contract to leave left Shanghai for Galatasaray few weeks ago.

Boateng’s dispute with Dnipro is over unapid wages over a period of time which triggered his action at FIFA.

Dnipro are holding out for 2.5m Euros to allow Boateng to leave but that move will be bound by transfer window limitation.

The Ghanaian will earn about Two Million Euros after tax if he seals the move to the Greek giants.

Olympiakos jumped to the front of the queue to sign the Ghana international, who remains on Fulham’s radar.

The 29-year-old had been in talks with the Cottagers in January, and while a deal had been struck, red tape had prevented the deal going through.

Boateng has been at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana – but had hoped the move would go through during his spell at the tournament in South Africa.

However, with the Fulham deal faltering, Olympiakos have now stepped in and are looking to push through a move.

The move was mooted by Olympiakos coach Michel who worked with Boateng for two years at Spanish side Getafe.
