Blame players for AFCON fiasco – ex-Ghana star Razak

Ghana legend Abdul Razak  insists the players should be blamed for their poor showing at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Ghanaians, touted as one of the huge favourites to win the continental showpiece flattered to deceive as they placed a disappointing fourth in South Africa.

Many have criticized the coach for his poor substitution which many believe accounted for their semi-final defeat to Burkina Faso.

But the 1978 African Footballer of the Year says the blame should be laid at the doorstep of the players.

“Because many of the players we took to South Africa proved that they can’t do the job,” Razak said

“Some players were very poor and uncommitted and it’s sometimes hard to blame the coach.

“I don’t believe in the constant change of coaches and I cannot say whether the coach is good or not.

“We have to give him time and see after say the World cup qualifiers to see, if this man is not the right coach for us.

“May be the problem is not the coach but the players.

The Black Stars will have to put the disappointment behind them and start preparing for 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sudan.
