The Black Stars have been urged to promote the famous Ghanaian dance; the ‘Azonto’ during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The players and coach Akwasi Appiah have been tasked to learn the famous dance very well in order to display its uniqueness during the tournament proper in June.

Several Ghanaian players – in particular Asamoah Gyan – have been using the Azonto dance as means for celebrating whenever a goal is scored.

The entire team is now being urged to produce the dance on a larger scale at the biggest football platform as part of plans of promoting and showcasing the true Ghanaian culture in Brazil.

“It is not only football that you have to go and showcase,” board chairman of GNPC – headline sponsors of the Black Stars – Ato Ahwoi said during the annual Ghana FA sponsorship awards ceremony.

“There is a Ghanaian dance that the Nigerians are looking to take over.

“You must learn the Azonto well so that when you score you can display it for it to become the new World craze.

“So coach, if you don’t know the Azonto you have to start learning so that we can display it well in Brazil.”

The Azonto dance has recently taken a new dimension – which is fast evolving into what is now famously known as the ‘Alkayeeda’.

This had led to the suggestion of planning a combined dance termed the ‘Azonkayeeda’.

After the goal is scored then the dance can be performed. No dance If you lose
Alkayeeda is not a beautiful dance. Must be stopped. Azonto Is the best

Am Kenyan but one of my favourite sports blog in Africa is this one.I think Azonto is a good dance which should be performed after a goal has been scored.

Several versions should be performed so that to entertain your fans.

What if they don’t score at all…… What dance then

The writer of this article is being “civil”. In fact Asamoah Gyan’s dance is STUPID and USELESS. It is not nice and it is annoying. So PLEASE, someone tell them to dance Azonto which is a remake of our Adowa and Kete dance. Note that it is the same Kete beat that the Jamaicans have modified into Reggae. We are here creating things with NO BASIS. It was a shame when the Togolese were dancing Azonto at the AFCON and our boys were doing that Asamoah Gyan’s stupid dance. We need to go back to our root and do the Azonto.
