Former Ghana captain CK Akunnor believes the attraction of playing at the World Cup is serving the supreme motivation for the Black Stars ahead of the crucial match against Egypt.

The Black Stars are home in the first leg of the epic tie to determine one of five African representatives at next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

Ghana look to beat the record African Cup winners to dilute their threat in the return encounter next month tentatively set to be played in Cairo.

Headline sponsors of the Black Stars GNPC have pledged a 50 percent increment to the team’s winning bonus amongst other personal pledges as a source of motivating the Black Stars to go for the kill against Egypt.

But CK Akunnor in his bid of whipping up support for the team alongside former playmate Augustine Arhinful and Sports Consultant Ebo Appiah believes the players are already self-motivated by the immense attraction of playing at the World Cup.

“It is important we understand where we are and where we are going,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“Where we are now is that we stand a chance of going to the World Cup.

“So this alone should motivate you as a player and I believe that these boys are capable of doing this job, of withstanding any pressure and capable of facing Egypt easily and winning convincingly.”
