South Africa-based midfielder Edwin Gyimah got a massive confidence boost ahead of his arrival in Ghana to join the Black Stars as he was named the man-of-match in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday.

Despite suffering the heartache with his SuperSport United side not winning the title in their match against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, the Ghana international was named the best player on the field.

His Essien-like display attracted rave reviews during the match from the game's commentators resulting in the award for the players despite his team's 1-0 defeat.

While helping to shore up his team's defence with his power, he was also not afraid of going forward with some attempts at the Orlando Pirates goal.

In the 32nd minute George Lebese was booked for a foul on Sibusiso Zuma and Cale’s free-kick was headed over the bar by Edwin Gyimah, who was having a solid game in defence.

Amakhosi were slapping the ball around the park but wasted a number of chances to wrap up the result with some poor decision making, along with some more crucial blocks from Gyimah.

With three minutes to go, Tshabalala combined with Letsholonyane but Shabba’s shot was blocked by Gyimah for a corner.

Lively substitute Siyabonga Nkosi picked out Majoro who was robbed of the ball brilliantly by the excellent Edwin Gyimah in the 88th minute.

The Ghanaian was named Man of the Match for his efforts.

However, Chiefs had done enough and as the final whistle blew they celebrated in style as they completed a League and Cup double.

Gyimah is expected to arrive in Ghana by Monday to join the Black Stars as they prepare for two World Cup qualifiers against Sudan and Lesotho next month.
