Black Stars Africa Cup of Nations squad out? Muntari, John Mensah snubbed

Published on: 10 December 2012

The authoritative newspaper Africa Sports has published a 23-man squad for Ghana's 2013 Africa Cup of Nations campaign ahead of Thursday's official announcement.

The paper, owned by renowned Ghanaian journalist Kwabena Yeboah, excludes experienced midfielder Sulley Muntari and John Mensah from the squad.

But there is right-back John Pantsil who is set to make his fifth appearances in the finals of the Nations Cup.

Ex-England youth Emmanuel Frimpong, who was recently cleared by FIFA to play for the Black Stars, also failed to make the final squad.

Contrary to rumours, the Ayew brothers Jordan and Andre will be included in Ghana's selected pack for South Africa.

Early on, the local media had speculated that Jordan, the younger, will be overlooked.

Derek Boateng and Samuel Inkoom, who have barely featured for Ukrainian side FC Dnipro, all made the cut.

Berekum Chelsea winger Solomon Asante is the only out-field player to have made the squad alongside goalkeepers Fatau Dauda and Daniel Agyei.

In-form Victoria Guirmaraes left-back David Addy was not named in the squad but rather China-based Lee Addy.

Ghana's squad:

Goalkeepers: Adam Kwarasey, Fatau Dauda, Daniel Agyei

Defenders: Isaac Vorsah, John Boye, Harrison Afful, Jerry Akaminko, Jonathan Mensah, Samuel Inkoom, John Pantsil, Lee Addy.

Midfielders: Derek Boateng Solomon Asante, Mubarak Wakaso, Rabiu Mohammed, Kwadwo Asamoah, Anthony Annan, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Christian Atsu.

Attackers: Asamoah Gyan, Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Majeed Waris, Emmanuel Clottey.

Have Your Say: Do you think these players deserve to be in Ghana's final 23-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations?
