Black Starlets ease past South Africa 3-2 in CAN-17 qualifier

The Black Starlets defeated South Africa 3-2 at the Sinaba Stadium

By Akyereko Frimpong Manson

Ghana defeated South Africa 3-2 in the first-leg of the 2013 CAN-17 qualifier at the Sinaba Stadium on Saturday.

Berlin FC striker Paul Asare (17) put Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side in front before David Atanga (37) doubled Ghana’s advantage.

Dressing room talks during the recess seemed to have worked for the Amajimbos as they halved the deficit in the 55th minute.

But Paul Asare restored Ghana’s 2-0 advantage after cutting through the hosts defence to drill a powerful low drive home.

Emmanuel Boateng was a constant nightmare for the host with his deftly weighed passes and defence-splitting touches.

Thamsanqa Masiya capitalised on a defensive blunder by Yakubu Mohammed to give Ephraim Mashaba’s side hope.

But the Ghana defence remained steadfast and hung on to win in Benoni.

Ghana host the South Africans in the return-leg fixture in a fortnight.

SA U17 XI: Jody February, Kabelo Seriba, Bongane Mathebula, Ayabulela Magqwaka ©, Rivaldo Coetzee (Sabelo Malunga 54th), Nhlakanipho Ntuli, Morne Nel, Bongani Khanyile (Siyanda Ngcobo 48th), Tlotlo Leepile, Ricardo Ndiki, Linda Bhengu.

Ghana U17 XI: Ali Mohammed, Asare Paul De-Vries, Yaw Yeboah (Gideon Waja 63rd), Isaac Twum, Thomas Agyepong  (Emmanuel Oti Essigba 61st), David Atanga, Emmanuel O. Boateng, William Dankyi, Nicholas Opoku, Yakubu Mohammed, Moses Odjer.

Well done boys. But who writes the titles on this website? If you call a 3-2 victory an easy win, what would you call a 5-0 or even a 3-0 victory?

    Greetings,

your caption must be fitting, akyereko come again.3-2 can’t be easy or it’s because of Yakubu’s defensive gaffe.
