The Black Queens of Ghana produced a solid performance to turn over the Mighty Warriors of Zimbabwe 2-1 in the Africa women championship qualifiers.

The Queens were the first to break out of the blogs with lethal striker Agnes Aduako posing questions of the Zimbabwean back line.

The early pressure paid off on the 30th minutes with Queens’s striker Merci Mills being brought down after a promising run into the box of the Zimbabwean penalty area.

Agnes Aduako elected herself and effectively sent the keeper the wrong way to give Ghana a 1-0 lead.

The goal spurred the Queens on and they could have had a second goal but for some wasteful finishing meaning they ended the half just a goal up.

The second begun with the same momentum with the Queens on top with the early exchanges.

Goal scorer Agnes Aduako sent in a pile driver that could have settled the nerves but it missed the Zimbabwean goal post by inches, there was respite for the team immediately after that when Samira Suleman kept her cool to shake off pressure from two Zimbabwean defender to slot home the second and give the Black Queens the security goal they so craved for.

The game  opened up after that with both sides creating chances but failing to utilize them.

But it was the Mighty Warriors of Zimbabwe who got the next goal of the game through Immaculate Esipah to remind the Ghanaians of what awaited them in the second leg with a good goal to keep the tie alive and score-line 2-1.

Both sides had opportunities to steal the headlines but ball with not just go in leaving the tie well poised for the second leg.
