Ghana coasted to a comfortable 2-0 win over Korea DPR in their Group B opener at the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on Saturday night at the Estadio Edgardo Baltodano Briceño in Costa Rica.

The Asians hoarded possession in the early stages of the game but Patrick Allotey’s girls turned the tables to take the lead through Jane Ayieyam in the 16th minute before they returned from the break to cement the victory with player-of-the-match award winner – Sandra Owusu Ansah capitalising on a defensive mix-up to score.

The West Africans went into the game with great determination to repeat the feat achieved by their predecessor at the last edition in New Zealand but they quickly realised they had to do more as the Asians took control of possession early in the game.

But despite the opposition’s dominance, Ghana made good use of their first real chance in the game when the prolific Jane Ayieyam timed her run to slot home from 12 yards for her fifth goal in her sixth U-17 World Cup match.

Korea could have pecked the scoring few moments later but they failed to score with Sung Hyang Sim shooting from inside of the box but her effort was blocked off the line.

Ghana doubled their advantage six minutes into the second stanza after crazy moment in the Koreans defence between central defender Pak Sin Jong and goalkeeper Kim Myong Sun and striker Owusu Ansah profited from the mix-up to steal the ball and tap into an empty net.

Ghana have gone top of the group with maximum points from their first game after shared the spoils with Canada in the other group game.

Good job ladies….I saw this game and I will say they will have to up their game if they are to beat Germany or Canada….Frankly, the keeper and the defender Amina were outstanding in the game and they are the reason why we won the match.
