By Patrick Akoto

Ghana beat Germany 1-0 to win bronze at the Fifa Under-17 Women’s championship on Saturday.

Captain Priscilla Okyere scored the decisive goal in the 38th minute to give the ambitious Ghanaian side the precious success.

The Black Maidens avenged the 2-1 defeat suffered at the hands of the European side during their opening group D game.

The team has etched their name in the history books as the first African nation to have picked a medal at the world showpiece.

The fairly tale story of the Black Maidens has suddenly re-ignited the interest of women’s football in the country.
