Ghana Premier League club Berekum Chelsea have initiated the process of changing the club’s name again.
The 2011 Ghana Premier League champions have filled this request to the Ghana FA following weeks of consultations.
The Brong Ahafo club was previously known as Bechem Chelsea but secured a name change upon promotion to the Ghanaian top flight in 2008.
The club now looks to change its name again from Berekum Chelsea to FC Berekum according the their Public Relations Officer Isaac Amponsah.
“There are consultations to have the name Berekum Chelsea changed to reflect the Berekum township,” he told Metro FM.
“Just like FC Barcelona reflects the city of Barcelona, we look to change Berekum Chelsea to FC Berekum.
“This is something that has been on the cards for some time now. The only thing left now is for the FA to certify the request to have the name changed.”
Chelsea who finished 2nd in the last Premier League season are one of Ghana’s two representatives in next season’s CAF Champions League.
