Berekum Chelsea
Berekum Chelsea have moved Sunday’s CAF Champions League Group B clash against Al Ahly from Accra to the Baba Yara Stadium, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.
Last week, the debutants announced the Group B match will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium after CAF rejected their request to play in Berekum.
But they reversed that after a crucial management meeting on Monday afternoon.
Berekum Chelsea Chief Executive Obed Nketiah explained the reasons behind the change in venue on the club’s website.
“Management met to review the decision of playing at the Accra Sports Stadium and feel Kumasi will be best for our fans in the Brong Ahafo Region.
“We have realized that it will less expensive and easier for our fans to travel to Kumasi than Accra. ”
Chelsea need a win to revive revive their semi-final qualification hopes after a humiliating 4-1 defeat in Cairo to Al Ahly two weeks ago.
Good move,i urge all Kumasi football fans especially kotoko supporters fill the stands to cheer B.chelsea on to victory
Berekum Chelsea will miss Richard Kissi Boateng badly bcos of the red card.Alfred Arthur who is his likely replacement lacks confidence & hes not able to exert himself in matches.the coach should psyche him well if he will play the game.
Thank God they’ve come back to their senses. I don’t understand while some Ghanaian would like to create animosity when and where there is non. Northerner though, I know Ashantes have nothing against the Brongs. Why play in Accra when the Kumasi studium has equally good facilities, closer to Brekum and name the rest of advantages in playing in Kumasi. A football-loving city. Any way, I’m appealing to all the soccer-loving fraternity in and around Kumasi to go and support Brekum on Sunday. I love them. They’re raising the flag of Ghana high. But I hate calling them Chelsea. When can we create something we can really call our own? Kyeremah or whatever you call yourself, think twice and listen to advice and stop thinking money is all. In any case the victory will go to Brekum and again Clottey is gonna be the hero for the day.
forget we will never fill any stadium for them, because they should have choose kumasi a head of Accra now u think twice that kumasi is less expensive, mtcheeeeeww
That’s a good decision by the management of bc. We the people of kumasi are solidly behind u. Chelsea lehgoooooo.
The DECISION by Chelsea to play its CAF sanctioned matches at the Baba Yara Sports stadium was no BRAINER to begin with so what prevented the management? This round-about turn of events go to confirm what I’ve been spear-heading that “foolish pride” and perceived tribal animosty being championed by some of our politicians is doing us more harm than good!Growing up in Kumasi in the 70′s, football loving fans from Brong Ahafo didn’t see or had any form of hatred for Kotoko and the reverse was also true. Kumasi football fans including myself loved Bofoakwa and BA United. Players like Asumadu, Dan Owusu, Kwasi Owusu,Amponsah,Gyabaa and many others were house-hold names in Kumasi and the Ashanti region. It’s indeed a great and prudent move by the management of Berekum Chelsea to engage in this face saving move and we the peace-loving Kumasi soccer fans are ready to embrace the hottest club in Ghana today-Berekum Chelsea.Go Chelsea,go Nana Nketia & Kyeremeh!
