Berekum Chelsea coach Hans Van Der Plyuim hopes to have his leading striker and first choice goalkeeper back in time from national duty to face Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League.

Emmanuel Clottey who is currently the top scorer in this season’s continental competition left the country on Sunday alongside goalkeeper Ernest Sowah for Ghana’s international friendly with China to be played on Wednesday.

Many have raised concerns over the associated jet-lag characterized with travels to the Far East and back just days before the crucial tie but Chelsea’s Dutch trainer says the decision to release the duo was not up to him.

“It can also have a positive effect on them being with the national team,” he said.

“The coach can’t stop them from going, it is a decision of the management and they have decided.

“I only hope they return fit and ready to play against Al Ahly on Sunday.”

Chelsea desperately need to beat the Egyptian giants to put their semi final ambition of the competition back on track.

They currently lie third in Group B on inferior goal difference to TP Mazembe of the DR Congo.
