Benin have decided against appointing ex Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac and have rather handed the job to Frenchman Didier Olle-Nicolle – paving the way for the Serbian’s return to join the Black Stars’ backroom staff for the 2014 World Cup.

Rajevac, 60, has been contacted by Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah over the possibility of joining his backroom staff for June’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Serbian tactician is rumoured to have pleaded for more time before opting to rejoin the Black Stars camp as he weighed his chances of becoming coach of Benin – incidentally being the preferred choice of authorities.

The exorbitant wage demands of Rajevac – having coached in the rich Gulf States after parting ways with Ghana in 2010 – however proved too costly for Benin to bear as they opted to appoint former Valenciennes and Nice coach Didier Olle-Nicolle.

Olle-Nicolle is tasked with qualifying Benin for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and must first deal with the first and second preliminary knockout rounds of qualification.

This also means all impediments in the way of Milovan Rajevac’s return to the Black Stars team for the 2014 World Cup have been cleared as his hands are not tied with any job commitments.

Coach Kwesi Appiah must however first confirm his intention of bringing in his former boss for June’s World Cup assignments – a decision which will have to be ratified by the Ghana FA.

Rajevac led Ghana to an impressive quarter final finish at the last World Cup finals four years ago in South Africa while Appiah was his assistant.

The Serbian remains very popular amongst Ghana FA officials and some sections of the fans for his impressive work while he was coach of the Black Stars between 2008 to 2010.
