Former Ghana FA boss Ben Koufie has dismissed suggestions of including any of the Local-Black Stars players into the mainstream team ahead of the World Cup despite qualifying to the CHAN final.

The home-based Stars secured a final berth against Libya after a nerve-racking penalty shoot-out win over perennial rivals Nigeria on Wednesday night.

The veteran football administrator, who doubles as the technical chief of the Ghana FA,  believes none of the players deserve a seat on the plane to Brazil.

“I have seen them play and they will not command a place on the full team. We cannot single it out and say this player has been excellent so we need to include him,” Koufie told Happy FM

“They have done well as a team but individually no. Konadu has done an excellent job, but to say somebody should be called for the Black Stars proper I will confidently say no.

“We have to groom them. We should not rush them but rather try to build them up so that when they get there we will all benefit.”

Despite securing a final berth, there are others who have not been impressed with the performance of the team.

l agree with him, but the only player who should make the world cup squad is the goalkeeper, steven adams

  2. allese says:

Totally rubbish, only yaya Mohammed should make it to the world cup

i see two defenders and the goal keeper making the world cup list

  4. John says:

Mr Ben is 100% right none of them deserves to be in Brazil 2014.If we are honest to ourselves how many of us was not at pain watching this match.None would have qualified to even play Hearts or Kotoko in the 80s or 90s much more Senior National team.We won but they were so ordinary.

  5. Assemblyman says:

Mr.Ben Koufie, the man I respect most in Ghana’s football. This man deserves more attributes. He speaks wisely and also very visionary. Thanks to his 5 year development plan Ghana has achieved a lot of successes including world cups and almost everything Ghana soccer. The wisest man of Ghana soccer.
I agree with him.But I think Adams should be considered for a call up.This will motivate some of the boys in the local leagues to also work to be given chances for national team call ups. This will ginger them psychologically to work harder for the future.

  6. Maxwell Johnson says:

The old man is damn right! This local BS team suck big time! None of these players qualify to even be on the bench of our main BS team let alone play, I might consider only the GK buh he can only get the 3rd GK slot. The only thing that has kept us going throughout this tourney is our strong back line, the GK and also sheer luck. And to those Kotoko fans over hyping their average players lol, its really amazing cuz I wonder how the hell 7 of their players made the final 23 man squad. With the exception of Adusei and to some extent Ainooson the rest are shit players and don’t deserve to be in the team.

  7. GHFUO, change ur MENtality says:

uncle ben is wrong. how often do we see local players included in the brasil national team? in wcup 2006, we had illiasu, mohammed, dan quaye all local players. so why not?

  8. Kaz says:

I dont know which tournament you are watching guys.. but if we are watching the same one the local black stars have been excellent! the coaches now have a large pool of players to choose and no matter what we say here, give credit when due! Bravo to the team

  9. acheampong Afful says:

I really believed that our guys will beat libya on the finals today by beaten them 3. 0
