Ashantigold coach Bashir Hayford says he deserves recognition and respect as the club inches closer to their first Premier League title in 20-years.

Hayford feels he’s done enough to merit plaudits for transforming the miners since he took charge two-years ago.

Ashantigold are sitting four-points clear at the top of the table with eight games to end the season and are in pole position to end a 20-year wait for a Premier League crown.

And Bashir Hayford, a former Kotoko and Medeama coach says he deserve plaudits for his feat.

“I do deserve recognition and respect from all of you. If I was Mourinho, many of you journalists will be singing my praises,” he said

“But in our part of the world, we don’t recognize and appreciate coaches who do well.

“I took this team from the scratch and look at what we have been able to achieve so far. These are young crop of talented players that I have put together.

“There are no big stars in my team. And you think I don’t deserve recognition? We must give praise where it’s due.”

The miners host New Edubiase in a crunch regional derby at the Len Clay stadium on Wednesday.
