Switzerland youth defender Kofi Nimeley wants to play for Ghana

FC Basel defender Kofi Ntiamoah Nimeley has decided to play for Ghana after featuring for Switzerland’s U-17 team.

The 19-year-old was part of the victorious Swiss team at the 2009 U-17 World Cup hosted in Nigeria.

Nimeley, who left Ghana at the age of six, is on the fringes of the first team of Swiss giants FC Basel.

And though having the perfect opportunity to continue playing for Switzerland, the right-back who can also play in midfield says he feels a calling to play for his country of birth.

“There is a profound feeling within drawing me to play for Ghana and I only have to oblige,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“It is always a dream to play for your country and though I have played for Switzerland at junior level, the desire is more of playing for Ghana.”

Nimeley’s tender age makes him very much eligible to play for the Ghana U-20 team that has qualified for next year’s African Youth Championships.

And he says he will jump at the opportunity to prove his worth to Ghanaians at all levels.

“I will be very glad if given the chance to play for Ghana at any level that I qualify,” he adds.

“The most important thing is that I get the chance to show my quality and hopefully it will come very soon.”
