FC Basel defender Kofi Ntiamoah Nimeley has decided to play for Ghana after featuring for Switzerland’s U-17 team.

The 19-year-old was part of the victorious Swiss team at the 2009 U-17 World Cup hosted in Nigeria.

Nimeley, who left Ghana at the age of six, is on the fringes of the first team of Swiss giants FC Basel.

And though having the perfect opportunity to continue playing for Switzerland, the right-back who can also play in midfield says he feels a calling to play for his country of birth.

“There is a profound feeling within drawing me to play for Ghana and I only have to oblige,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“It is always a dream to play for your country and though I have played for Switzerland at junior level, the desire is more of playing for Ghana.”

Nimeley’s tender age makes him very much eligible to play for the Ghana U-20 team that has qualified for next year’s African Youth Championships.

And he says he will jump at the opportunity to prove his worth to Ghanaians at all levels.

“I will be very glad if given the chance to play for Ghana at any level that I qualify,” he adds.

“The most important thing is that I get the chance to show my quality and hopefully it will come very soon.”

  1. my fear is those who ddnt grown up n gh use our dear black star as a spot height and aftr that they wll thn realise they cannot involve national soccer wth their club due to their health.

  2. eric says:

we don’t need kevin prince boateng kind of behaviour in our teams anymore. they all want to market themselves through our national teams, get good contracts and give excuses when its time to honour their pledge. We are content with the guys we have and we will make good use of them.

  3. KWAME PITO says:

i think the boy needs to be called for the under 20 tournament den if he progress we can give him a chance at the stars.we shd try all players who are ready to play for ghana not those who we force

  6. real sabacious says:

@Alhaji does the way to go but our corrupt GFA dont see any wisdom in inviting such kind of players until they become a top player, before competiting with those developed countries to convince them to play for GHANA.if nyantakyi led GFA could have acted on time,Danny welcbeck should be playing for Ghana now.England did the right thing by capping sterling, jenkinson and zaha.it cost nothing to do this!!corrupt lazy GFA! Please act fast on memphis depay before we loss him to holland aaaaaaaaba!

  7. Joseph Nah says:
