Bad pay forced me out of Kotoko - Bekoe

Eric Bekoe

By Ameenu Shardow

Eric Bekoe has revealed he left Asante Kotoko for Petrojet in 2008 because his pay at the time was very bad.

The 25-year-old striker was then on top of his game and emerged the Top Goal scorer in the Ghana Premier League haven scored 17 goals in 23 matches.

Bekoe was expected to play an integral role in Kotoko’s campaign in the next Caf Champions League but rather opted to join Suez club amidst serious interest from Zamalek.

And after four years of his departure, Bekoe who is back in Ghana after the sudden truncation of the Egyptian League has revealed he would have stayed with the Kumasi-based club if his wage was ok.

“If I am paid a good salary, why should I rush and go and pass through a whole of pressure and others in a foreign country,” he told Angel FM.

“Whether you are young or old, you become the breadwinner of the family because you play for Kotoko.

“So those days when paid an amount of Ghc 1000 why rush for a little outside the country.”

  2. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

no gh players should go to that place called egypt. can bekoe still PLAY? IF HE CAN, THEN KOTOKO OR HEARTS OR ASHGOLD SHOULD SIGN HIM AS THEY PREPARE FOR AFRICA. IF NOT, THEN BEKOE SHOULD GO TO S AFRICA N PLAY THERE. HAD HE GONE TO S AFRICA, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN EUROPE BY NOW. MORE EUROPEAN N FOREIGN SCOUTS GO TO S AFRICA BECAUSE OF THE INFRASTRUCTURE N DEVELOIPMENT THERE. WHO IS GOIN TO COME TO GH? TWEAKAI……..PREMIER LEAGUE POTOOOORRRRR, ACCRA LOKKS PORTORRRRR, EVEN KOTOKO LOOKS POTOORRRRRRR.YET DAT FOOL NYANTAKYI IS TILL IN CHARGE

  3. KT says:

Please take your time. Whatever it is, Nyantakyi has earned his reputation;earn yours by commenting constructively. You are telling our stars to go to Europe via SA, yet you say the league is bad. When the Stars go, who will you watch next season. We are all to blame for ‘bad’ league you are saying, because we think Europe SA are better than us. Let’s emancipate ourselves from Mental Slavery. Lets contribute to help pay the guys better. For Bekoe, he is about 30 years now. He is done!!

  4. Listo says:

    Nowadays..futbal is played 4 money nt passion..else nasri wudn’t ve left arsenal,gyan…

  5. Lysh says:

Give us a break Ghanaian, who aint wrking 4 money or y dnt ya go onto dat pitch n throw ur legs???. As a matter of fact, some people work in de offices and their career is 2 be on de field. Stop de hating n leave de damn guy alone.. which team wuldnt luv 2 sign dis striker??? Hes too gud…

  6. Fifa One says:

Rap you are mad, do you understand that sentence he made? do you know the number of family members he is taking care of? if his team mates won’t want to go, does that means he should also not go if the money is good for him and if he thinks it will help him? You don’t know much about his background so stop talking nonsenses. Even our Chairman Dr K K sarpong is also working for money.

  7. ERIC, TORONTO. says:

I’m very disappointed in this report..I listened to him and he never said anything of a sort. He said had he at the time with Kotoko receiving the amount he was to receive at petrojet there no way we would’ve left. He also pointed to the fact that, once you play for a big club like Kotoko you start to incure bigger burdens and with that he had no other option but to accept the offer from the Egytian club. Please do not twist peoples statements. He was interviewed on monday 11/06/2012 he was interviewed by (striker) and the interview to about 8mins. He never said his salary was bad. In the said interview, he made it clear his intention to rejoin Kotoko. You can’t do false reportage on some of us.

  8. sammy says:

Too many children here and there that is the reason why Kotoko salary was not enough for him! If he like he can play for man u still the money will not be enough to take care of all his children

  9. Ceekay Nar says:

wel i undastand him but ma question is this, is da salary ok 4 him now da he has declared his intention 2 rejoin Kotoko?
