Ex-Ghana striker Felix Aboagye says Avram Grant is justified to field his best players for friendly matches to gain points on the FIFA ranking.

Pundits believe Grant must give fringe players more playing opportunities in exhibition matches after last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Senegal in Le Havre.

The Black Stars went down 2-0 before Richmond Boakye Yiadom climbed off the bench to grab a consolation.

Grant as come under attack for overlooking his fringe players like goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda, Seidu Salifu, Ebenezer Assifuah, and goalscorer Boakye.

But Aboagye believes Grant cannot experiment with international friendlies which could cost Ghana on the FIFA ranking, used for ratings.

“If you look at the FIFA Ranking, it can decide how a nation will be seeded during competitions so you need good results even in friendly matches,” the former Al Ahly striker told Daily Soccer Ghana.

“As much as you need to prepare the young strikers, you must blend them with the experienced strikers during friendly matches to win and protect your FIFA Ranking.

“You cannot rely on using friendlies to just look at the young players.”
