Ghana winger Christian Atsu proved his fitness for this month’s World Cup qualifier against Sudan by playing the entire duration of FC Porto’s 2-0 win over Estoril on Friday night.
The 21-year-old only returned to training last week after sustaining a minor thigh injury.
The Ghana youngster was sparingly used in last weekend’s stalemate with Sporting Lisbon.
He however proved he had shaken off his thigh strain by playing the full throttle and even went on to win a penalty for his side which was neatly dispatched by Jackson Martinez to double Porto’s lead in the 14th minute.
This was after the Portuguese champions had taken a 4th minute lead through Maicon.
The Ghana international now appears good to go to join the Black Stars for the crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sudan on March 24.
Atsu is one of the players who failed to fully convince fans with a below par performance at the 2013 Nations Cup in South Africa.
The left-footer is however expected to be named in the next Black Stars squad to face Sudan as part of the processes to improve the young lad.
For me atsu did well at afcon bcos it was his derby trnamnt nd he proved himself..i don’t think his performance was below pal as the story implies.. Atsu is one of ghana’s best players if nt the best.
Debut tournament. i support that claim. he will surly shine next time round
Atsu had a good debut tourney,nd even scored a very gud gol agnst niger
Atsu did well at the last AFCON. He was way better than the other players. I think Atsu deserves the number 10 position. Dede should be given the number 8 position because he’s a hard tackler, a dribbler and an attacker. Muntari can ppay the 11. Essien or Frimpong can play the midfield (6 position) better than anyone.
Kudos Atsu, you have the potential to become one of the best players in the world just keep on working hard.
ijahman, it is clear you dont know what you talking about. Atsu does not fit a no. 10. His play style is more of an attacking winger. Dede can hold the ball infront of the opposition half and dribble within a circle in a closed space. If you study Atsu, his dribbling style is different. Atsu dribbles forwards! with a push of the ball! Dede dribbles with the ball close to his legs. Atsu and Dede is not the same and if A.A figures this out the better for Ghana because the way most african teams like to pack the bus against us, a ball holder infront of their goal who can taunt them is required in the team. Direct football does not work against a defensive opposition. So dede is the perfect no. 10 and atsu the perfect attacking winger.
