Ghana Premier League side AshantiGold were blocked at the last minute to re-sign goalkeeper Fatau Dauda from Orlando Pirates, the club have revealed.

Dauda, Ghana’s first choice goalkeeper has been inactive since joining the Bucs in June last year and that has been a major worry as the 2014 World Cup finals beckon.

He is down the pecking order as head coach Roger Da Sa prefers Senzo Meyiwa and Brighton Mhlogo.

AshGold, who transferred the player to the Premier Soccer League outfit, wanted a loan spell to keep him match fit.

But Pirates’ chief administrator Floyd Mbele was against the idea had assured the goalkeeper of enough playing time.

“The player belongs to Pirates at the moment and the perogative to offer a loan deal remains theirs,” AshGold CEO Kudjoe Fianoo told the Daily Graphic.
