The Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II who is rumoured to have died visited the Black Stars team on Saturday morning ahead of their CHAN final match against Libya.

The King of the Ashanti Kingdom charged the team headed by coach Maxwell Konadu to go the extra mile to bring honour to Ghana by clinching the championship which is being hosted by South Africa.

Ghana will be facing Libya on Saturday evening in the grand finale of the tournament.

The two sides are facing each other for the second time in the competition following their 1-1 draw at the group stage.

Otumfour Osei Tutu II who is rumoured to have passed away in South Africa called on the team at their camp in Cape Town to pledge his support while inspiring the players and officials ahead of the crunch finals against the North Africans.

“I will like to congratulate you for making your nation proud by defying all odds to make it this far in the competition,” the Asantehene told the players in the presence of Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi.

“The job is however not yet done. We have one more game to play against Libya.

“I believe you can do it, I believe in you that by the end of the day victory will be ours.

“Maintain your discipline and abide by the instructions of your coaches to ensure that we win the cup to honour and make our nation and countrymen proud.

“I guarantee that you have my fullest support and the support of all Ghanaians and I pray that the good Lord strengthen you for the battle ahead.”

The home-based Black Stars are in with a chance of ending Ghana’s 32-year wait for a trophy at senior level.

Ghana is playing in its second final since the competition’s inception in 2009.
