Asante Kotoko is broke and will have to borrow money to recruit players ahead of the new season according to the head of the interim management team Opoku Nti.

The camp of the Ghana Premier League champions is in turmoil following the shock resignation of Executive Chairman Dr. K.K Sarpong.

The club must spend to bring in players to augment the squad that has already seen some quality departures.

But the club is unable to generate internal funds for their recruitment drive despite boasting the highest number of sponsors in the Ghanaian top flight.

“We are looking for money for recruitment,” Opoku Nti told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“We will have to go and borrow money for this exercise.”

The revelation by Opoku Nti shows the sorry state of the club’s finances.

Kotoko have recently recieved huge financial rewards from some of their sponsors following their successful Premier League defence.

It however appears these monies are being used to defray outstanding club debts.
