Ex Ghana captain CK Akunnor has likened the influence of Asamoah Gyan for both club and country to that of iconic Ivorian star Didier Drogba.

The Black Stars captain ace has been consistent in his scoring form since moving to the UAE to join Al Ain in 2011.

Gyan has scored an incredible 71 goals in 59 appearances for the UAE giants.

His astonishing club form has filtered through to the national team where he is now just a goal shy of equalling the record of the all-time leading scorer for the Black Stars jointly held by Edward Acquah and Kwesi Owusu.

And former Ghana captain CK Akunnor believes Asamoah Gyan has evolved to be as influential for both club and more importantly for country just like Ivorian star Didier Drogba.

"Asamoah is a player I watched grow with so much pleasure and pride,” Akunnor told GHANAsoccernet.com.

"His leadership qualities are there for all to see and his influence on the team is like that of Didier Drogba on the Ivorian team.

"His form is imperious with the (Black) Stars and will again play a key role if we are to have a good World Cup campaign.”

Gyan will be leading Ghana in its third successive appearance at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The Black Stars are drawn in Group G alongside Germany, Portugal and USA.
