Asamoah Gyan has been awarded Sports Writers Association of Ghana Men’s Footballer of the Year.

The Al Ain forward's scoring feat last year in the African World Cupqualifying series and for his United Arab Emirates side made him the obvious winner.

His statistics were too much for Italy-based duo and international teammates Kwadwo Asamoah and Sulley Ali Muntari.

He was not at the function as he prepares to face Al Ahli in the final of the UAE President’s Cup on Sunday.

His father Gyan Baffour Mensah and Chief Executive Officer of his foundation Samuel Anim Addo received the award on his behalf.

Gyan was in contention for the prestigious Personality of the Year Award but was beaten to it by his national team coach Kwesi Appiah.
