Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has opened two-goal gap at the top of the goalscorers chart in the UAE top-flight after Argentine attacker Sebastian Tagliabue failed to score on Friday night.

The two strikers have been engaged in a hot race of who becomes the league's top scorer with just one match remaining.

The two players were tied on 26 goals each before the penultimate round of matches which were played from Thursday.

Gyan scored twice for Al Ain on Thursday to take his season's league tally to 28 but the Al Wahda attacker Tagliabue failed to score on Friday even though they defeated relegation Dubai club 2-0 in the match.

This means Gyan is now is a comfortable lead with two goals ahead of nearest rival with the last round of matches to played on Saturday and Sunday next week.

The final round of matches will have six teams battling for a top-four finish.

Aside from Wahda and Shabab, there are Al Jazira, Al Nasr, Al Ain and Sharjah, with three points separating third place from seventh.
