Asamoah Gyan scored his 18th goal of the season to help Al Ain to a 2-1 win over Al Shaabab in the UAE Pro League on Friday.

The Ghana captain opened the scoring after just 13 minutes in the game played at the Tahnoun Bin Mohammed Stadium.

The former Udinese, Rennes and Sunderland striker has now scored an ‘insane’ 18 goals in just the 10 matches played so far this season.

Asamoah, who turned 27 last week has continued with his inspired form this season despite losing his mother to a car crash earlier this month.

He is now just four goals shy of equaling his 22 goal return in his debut season in the UAE top flight.

The Ghana striker is in the form of his life and very timely as the Black Stars prepare to make its latest attempt to win a fifth Nations Cup title in South Africa.

Friday’s win which was wrapped up by a 61st minute strike by Ali Al Wehaibi despite a consolation from Careca now sees Al Ain restore its three point lead in the Pro League and well on course to defending the title they won last season.
