Ghana FA confirms confirms Gyan's return to the Black Stars

Posted On Wednesday, 11th July 2012

Asamoah Gyan has confirmed his return to Black Stars

The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan has rescinded his decision to retire from the national team.

Africa’s leading football news portal www.mtnfootball.com reported earlier on Wednesday has returned to the national team after a five-month absence.

The UAE-based striker took a temporary break from international football in February after the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Al Ain attacker sent a letter to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) reversing the decision.

Gyan says he is available for selection for the Black Stars with immediate effect.

“Following my letter on 16th February 2012,I wish to inform you that I am  now ready to be selected for my National Team of Ghana,” Gyan said in the letter to the GFA.

“The past five months have given me an opportunity to reflect.

“My friends, family and the “football family of Ghana” have been incredibly supportive, and it is with their help that I have reached the decision to return to international duty.

“I am fully committed and focused on our clear goals ahead as a nation on the quest for qualification for both AFCON 2013 and the World Cup in 2014.”

Gyan will now be available for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as well as the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

good one there. Just try to increase your tally without penaltes and you would be better of allowing somebody else take the or and the shame-nobilty

  2. saintboafo says:

Good news to here Gyan is back. He is arguably our best striker now. But the coach should not relax but continue to search for equally good strikers to move the team forward. Also the zambians who come on this site to insult should stop that with immediate effect. Your comments are welcome but with no insults. @Ansong. It is very sad that you dont comment on the issue at stake but always say kumasi coach. Concentrate on talking about the issue and stop the unecessary and irrelevant yet ignorant comments.

  10. Bin Gbagbo says:

the guy is annoying but we still need him as adiyiah is rubbish now.one player i want to see retire is samuel inkoom.
we can now punish zambia with badu, atsu, clottey, kwadwo, andre , jordan, ghana will shock the world in 2014.

inkoom please retire for me. .. .i beg you

  11. obele says:

We will accept you becouse we have no option but mind you, we will deal with you at the right time.

  12. bbc says:

Breaking news from BBC: Adiyiah and Inkoom for real madrid. Wow guys what do you think?

  13. Edward says:

Pls Gyan can play but should not be allowed to take panelties.

  14. Mojahadine says:

We don’t want Gyan. We already have Atsu and Waris and they are better than him. Gyan is nothing but an over hyped striker with minimal skills when challenged.

This coach does not have the mental fortitude to run a team like the Black Stars. He does not want to develop players. He is only looking for ready made offense.

Some foreign coach decided to develop Gyan by giving him the opportunity to play when he was totally a green horn, even taking the chance in starting him in the world cup. Akwesi Appiah is just another useless over praised local with no clue on what to do to improve the B/S striking force.

If the Black Stars are going to improve their striking force then Gyan should come from the bench, if they so bent on bringing him.

    • mukmin says:

I concur we are too reliant on Gyan we are not willing to give talented up and coming prospects a chance. The coach needs to be bold and give the young ones an opportunity to flourish and they can only do that if the coach has confidence in them. We don’t need Gyan the lost our last game against Zambia due to the naivety of the coaching staff. They need to sit up and prepare the team well and stop going around begging people to come out of retirement they need to learn to win with the team and talent they have at their disposal. Akwasi Appiah will need to include Waris and Clottey in his attacking arsenal.

  15. Kings Of Africa Zambia 4 u says:

We wil make gyan retire again . zambia is no push over now.

  16. Zash says:

U n who? Shut ur stinking rotten foul mouth n go to ur useless site pork-ass bitch zombie zambian.

  17. Blow says:

With any stretch of imagination, Gyan is arguably our finest striker and we can ill afford to do without him.Jordan needs more game time with the meteors to prove himself as he is not mentally and physically ready for top flight soccer.

  18. saintboafo says:

To the zambians your last warning. Dont insult. Ok.

  19. Champions on line says:

Ghana means witches. In morden english it means juju

  20. bongo says:

Ayew bro’s to serve him more accurate passes and stop too much skills on the ball. last Africa cup our forward prayers everybody want to get name 4 him self and they refused to serve my legend to bang in the goals, this goes to our midfield and attackers, u see Spain no selfish. WE LIKE SPEED FOOTBALL IF U R TIRED COME AND SIT DOWN 4 EVERY BODY TO SEE THAT U R GETTING EXPIRED.

  21. kings of africa says:

ghana 0 copperbullat 1 come next year

  22. bongo says:

WHY WE INSULTS WHEN SOME ONE WASTED PENALTY, U SEE WHAT HAPPENED DURRING THIS RECENT EURO CUP. THE PRAYER MEAN TO SCORE NOT TO THROW IT AWAY, THOSE WHO INSULTS NEED TO SEND TO CHECK UP, TO CALIBRATE THIER BRAIN, THEY DO NOT UDERSTAND FOOTBALL. CRAZY DOGS WHY U ENVY GYAN

  23. mike says:

A warrior is one who fights on in the mist of difficulties not one who quits. The national team is not your property for you tell us when to come and when to leave.I wish you stay out forever, heartbreaker.

  24. chipolopolo says:

this time arround will make him retire in his home country ghana..in kumasi hehehehe

  25. one shoot says:

oh shit this fool is back, this time we gona rip off his heart and eat his gat dem children.

  26. Tk says:

I wonder why the gfa allow players to walk in and out of the black stars like their room. What shows he won’t ask 4 dat same break again. Gyan should not think we won’t be angry when he plays such penalties.

  27. mike says:

its about time we started doing the right things, right up from the gfa guru himself, a lawyer signing a contract without a conditional clause to accepting flimsy excuses like Gyan’s and Essien to be taking a break from the national team. Their egos feels bloated and they think their places in the national team is godgiven and forever reserved. Essien after recovering from injury has now become a surplus to requirement at Chelsea.i would want him to tell his bosses at Chelsea he is taking a break from club football for while. On the few occassions that he was given a chance to relaunch himself, he started by scoring own goals. its now that if he had been playing national matches,he could have gained.it was through his exploits at the under 17 soccer fiesta in newzealand via the national team that he was seen and thinks a better way to pay them back is to sit out and concentrate on his club career.that boy can never tell me he is committed to the national cause, what people dont know and some have forgotten is that in his first national black star call up in Mali, when they hosted it Michael Essien feigned injury. most seasoned journalist at the time know this but never published it. i keep on wondering why players should be begged to play for their national teams when the money they even earn from such assignments most us can only dream of.we should axe all who have ego problems and promote hard working and committed players.

  28. fliplex says:

We have to call up quincy great player and fuck essien Kevin and all dose bastards who dont know wat dey bout

  29. MAWUDEKA says:

TO ME I THINK WITH THE PAIR OF GYAN AND CLOTEY UP FRONT CAN BE AWESOME JUST LIKE THE DAYS OF AGOGO WHILES OPERATED FROM FLANKS,GYAN SHOULD NOT BE THE MAIN MAN THAT IS WHY 4-3-3 OR 3-4-3 AND 3-5-2 FORMATION IS VERY GOOD FOR THE CURRENT COP OF PLAYERS WE HAVE NOW SINCE WE ARE HUGELY BLESS WITH TALENTED MILDFILDERS
